Today, with the start of a new year, I want to introduce my blog. Most of the time a blog has the name of the blog writer. My name is Robert Molnar, yet I am using Liquid Days Photo. It’s the name of my website, Facebook, my blog, etc. And here is the reason: in 2000, I bought a sailboat which I christened Liquid Days. The liquid, of course, being the saltwater of the ocean.
Which brings me to the subject of boats. Sailing is a life-long obsession of mine; I think it’s in my genes. My parents met while sailing and my grandpa was a captain. He was the one that really inspired me to read and dream about sailing to far off places.
Another subject is photography. My dad, who was an award-winning, self-taught hobby photographer, taught me on his Leica M3 all the basics of photography from developing to editing. As a student, I had the privilege to assist, learn and extend my knowledge from a Danish fashion photographer in Paris.
A third big passion is food which began in early childhood. I was always a willing and able helper in the kitchen. My grandpa, the captain, collected business cards from restaurants that he went to from all around the world. He always wrote a few comments about the place, the food, what he ate, the price, etc. You can imagine, that as a little boy, I was fascinated about his cigar boxes full of those cards.
This brings me to the purpose of this blog. I will mostly write about places where location, food and boats connect. The camera will be the conduit to tell the story with pictures. Of course, I will also write about architecture and the lifestyle of those places.
As much as I am looking forward to this new project, I am also very much interested in people’s opinions out there. It’s all about sharing stories. This will fit, I hope, in my life philosophy of being content, living simply and slowly.
